The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), in partnership with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), has launched a new multilingual digital application to enable migrants in Accra to lodge complaints, seek assistance and access referral services without physically visiting the Assembly.
The AMA Migrant Desk Management Platform, which supports English, French, Spanish and Arabic, was officially handed over to the Assembly on Friday, August 7, 2026, at the Accra City Hotel alongside the launch of the Accra Migrant Integration Initiative.
The platform forms part of the Community Response for Sustainable Reintegration of Migrants and Enhancement of Migration Management Services project, being implemented by IOM with support from GIZ.
The platform requires users to provide basic information, including their full name, contact number, email address, location, gender, nationality, migration status, and mode of complaint.
The platform also features an artificial intelligence-powered chatbot, multilingual translation, real-time voice translation, and multilingual data collection tools.
Speaking on behalf of the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, the Metropolitan Coordinating Director, Mr. Douglas Annoful expressed appreciation to GIZ, IOM, and other partners for their support towards the development and launch of the platform.
He said the AMA existed to serve all persons within its jurisdiction, including migrants, and would continue to support initiatives that improved access to essential services.
He said the Assembly did not take the welfare of migrants in the city lightly, hence its collaboration with IOM, GIZ, and other institutions to provide practical interventions to support their integration and wellbeing.
He added that the application would make it easier for migrants to seek assistance or lodge complaints without having to travel to the AMA offices.
The Coordinating Director expressed optimism that the platform would strengthen communication between migrants and the Assembly, improve case management and referrals, and enhance service delivery and urged migrants, AMA officers as well as partner institutions to use the platform effectively so that the resources invested in its development would not go to waste.
Mr. Eric Kwame Akomanyi, IOM National Project Officer described the platform as a comprehensive migrant management and referral system designed to support migrant registration, case management, referral tracking, reporting, and coordination among institutions.
He said plans were also underway to link the platform with Ghana’s National Referral Mechanism database to strengthen coordination and improve referral pathways.
Under the Accra Migrant Integration Initiative, 100 migrants were identified and screened to begin enrolment onto the National Health Insurance Scheme and the National Identification System.
As part of the handing over, IOM also donated a Samsung Smart 75- and 43-Inch TV sets, a Desk Phone, 5 Samsung Smartphones and 8 Pull-up Banners to support the operationalisation of the AMA Migrant Desk.
The ceremony brought together AMA officials, representatives of IOM and GIZ, officials of the National Identification Authority and National Health Insurance Authority, migrant communities, platform developers, and other stakeholders.
