The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has pledged to prioritise improved service delivery, stronger infrastructure, climate resilience, and broader opportunities for residents in 2026, as the city marked the New Year.
In a New Year message issued by the Assembly on 1st January, the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey stated that the Assembly's focus for the year would include reforms and interventions aimed at strengthening municipal services, accelerating development projects, and expanding inclusive initiatives across the metropolis.
"The AMA remained committed to improving service delivery, strengthening infrastructure, building climate resilience and creating opportunities for all," the report noted, indicating that the new year would be approached with a renewed focus on tangible improvements that impact daily life in the capital.
The message also underscored the Assembly’s expectation of stronger public cooperation in city management, noting that progress would depend on unity, discipline, and shared responsibility among residents, institutions, and stakeholders.
The Mayor said that, through collective effort, the city would be reset and transformed into a cleaner and safer place for all, signalling that the administration would continue to pursue policies and programmes aligned with the broader “Resetting Accra” agenda.
He extended New Year wishes to residents as well as market women and invoked blessings for the city, stating that the period should serve as a time for recommitment to shared civic duties and community-minded conduct.
He pledged the AMA’s commitment to continue ongoing efforts to enhance city sanitation, improve urban order, and deliver metropolitan services while positioning Accra to respond to climate-related risks and resilience needs.
