The National Chief Imam, His Eminence Shiekh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu has called for sustained peace in Accra, urging religious harmony and peaceful coexistence among people of different faiths while expressing hope for continued unity and stability in the city and the country at large.
The Chief Imam made the call on Wednesday when the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey paid a courtesy call on him to express gratitude for his prayers and support, and to present assorted food items ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration.
He also offered prayers for the Mayor asking God to elevate his position, bless his efforts and grant him good health and continuous success in office.
Hon. Allotey, speaking during the visit, expressed profound gratitude to God for His blessings and acknowledged the significant role the Chief Imam had played in his journey to office.
He recalled that before his appointment, he visited the Chief Imam to seek his prayers and was assured of success, adding that he had since returned to express appreciation after assuming office.
The Mayor said he was hopeful that the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) would continue to grow and prosper under the guidance, prayers and wisdom of the Chief Imam.
He noted that the presentation of the food items was to mark the Eid-ul-Fitr festivities and to share with children, while also demonstrating appreciation for the continuous spiritual support he had received.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the National Chief Imam’s Office welcomed the Mayor and his delegation, describing the visit as timely, as it coincided with the last ten days of Ramadan, a period regarded as highly spiritual in Islam.
He said the Chief Imam had played a significant role in promoting peace and religious tolerance in Ghana, adding that his influence had helped create an environment in which people of different religious backgrounds freely interacted and shared in each other’s celebrations.
The items presented included bags of rice, cartons of cooking oil, packs of drinking water and non-alcoholic beverages.
With the Mayor for the visit were the Metro Coordinating Director, Mr. Douglas N.K. Annoful, Head of International Relations, Mr. Bashiru Salifu, Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Gilbert Nii Ankrah, Deputy Director of Operations, Aminu Mohammed and other notable dignitaries from the Okaikoi South Sub - Metropolitan District.
