The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has presented the Executive Committee’s (EXECO) report to the General Assembly of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) during its Second Ordinary Meeting of the First Session of the 9th Assembly, held at the Omanye Aba Hall in Accra.
The report contained a series of proposals from the various sub-committees aimed at strengthening financial management, improving service delivery, and enhancing infrastructure across the metropolis.
The report outlined critical recommendations, including the opening of an escrow account in consultation with the Controller and Accountant General, the relocation of transport vehicles from the Agbogbloshie market to the Yam Market to ease traffic flow, and the abrogation of the revenue contract between the AMA and Smart City.
In education, the EXECO report recommended that the Assembly make provision for the fees of fifteen successful Ga-Adangbe scholarship applicants for the 2025/2026 academic year and that all Ga teachers under the Ghana Education Service (GES) be posted within the Accra Metropolis.
It further proposed that the AMA organise annual mock examinations for both BECE and WASSCE candidates starting in January 2026.
Other proposals included renovation of key health centres such as the Princess Marie Hospital, Makola Government Hospital, and Ussher Hospital, as well as the resourcing of the Births and Deaths Department to enhance outreach registration and establish centres across all sub-metros.
Additionally, the committee urged that expenditure on official celebrations such as Homowo and Salah be reduced to allow for more capital project investments and recommended the approval of reviewed sanitation by-laws to strengthen environmental management.
During the session, the General Assembly also approved the 2026 Composite Budget, Annual Action Plan, and Fee-Fixing Resolution, which together form the foundation of the Assembly’s fiscal and operational strategy for the coming year.
The Head of Planning, Mr Richard Kwame Oduro, presented an update on the 2026–2029 Medium-Term Development Plan (MTDP), which aims to guide Accra’s transformation into a “Smart, Safe, and Climate-Resilient City” that fosters decent jobs and shared prosperity.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, the Head of Public Affairs at the AMA, Mr Gilbert Nii Ankrah, said the Assembly remained committed to implementing strategic projects that would drive growth and improve the living conditions of residents.
He called on citizens to support the Assembly and the Mayor’s vision of a cleaner, more liveable city.
“The Accra we all want can be achieved if we collaborate and work together,” Mr Ankrah emphasised.
The meeting concluded with the adoption of key resolutions and the approval of development plans, marking a significant milestone in the AMA’s ongoing efforts to promote good governance, transparency, and inclusive urban development.
The meeting, chaired by the Presiding Member, Hon. Musah Ziyad brought together Assembly Members and Departmental Heads to deliberate on key developmental priorities and financial frameworks to guide the city’s progress in 2026.
