The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), in partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies, has opened applications for the second phase of the Youth Climate Action Fund to support youth-led projects addressing climate change and environmental challenges within the city.

In a press release issued by the Assembly on Monday, it said eligible youth groups, youth-led organisations and youth-serving organisations could apply for microgrants ranging from US$1,000 to US$5,000 to implement practical climate interventions aligned with Accra’s climate priorities.

It stated that applications for the Youth Climate Action Fund Phase 2.0 must be submitted no later than Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

According to the Assembly, the initiative was designed to provide young people between the ages of 15 and 24 with the financial and institutional support needed to develop and implement innovative, community-based climate projects.

It explained that the proposed projects were expected to contribute to climate change mitigation, environmental sustainability, and the resilience of communities within the Accra metropolis.

The AMA said applicants could propose projects in environmental sanitation, waste reduction, recycling, urban greening, climate education, food-waste recovery, community clean-up exercises, rain gardens, and energy efficiency.

It added that applications covering other practical interventions that directly responded to climate and environmental challenges within communities would also be considered.

The Assembly indicated that eligible applicants were required to download the official Youth Climate Action Fund application form from its website at www.ama.gov.gh, complete it, and submit a proposal consistent with the city’s climate priorities.

It said every proposed project must have a budget of between US$1,000 and US$5,000 and include at least one clearly defined output and one measurable outcome.

The AMA further required applicants to provide a numerical target for each proposed output and outcome to enable the city to effectively monitor project implementation and assess the impact of the interventions.

It said proposals should clearly identify the climate or environmental challenge to be addressed, the activities to be undertaken, the target beneficiaries, the expected outputs and outcomes, the implementation period, and the proposed budget.

Applicants were also expected to demonstrate their ability to implement the proposed activities, responsibly manage the grant, and submit reports on the work undertaken and the results achieved.

The Assembly encouraged eligible youth groups and organisations across Accra to take advantage of the opportunity to develop practical solutions that would improve environmental conditions and strengthen climate resilience in their communities.
