The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey has inspected ongoing school infrastructure projects across the metropolis to assess the progress and quality of renovation works being undertaken in public basic schools ahead of reopening.

The inspection covered renovation works at the Aayalolo Cluster of Schools and the Private Odartey Lamptey Basic School, where the Mayor assessed the level of completion and interacted with officials responsible for the projects.

At the Aayalolo Cluster of Schools, the Mayor inspected ongoing renovation works on several classroom facilities and expressed the Assembly's commitment to enhancing the learning environment for pupils and teachers.

During the visit on Monday 31^st August,2026, the Mayor announced that the Assembly would undertake additional interventions which were not included in the existing renovation contract to further improve conditions at the school adding that painting of the school blocks would commence next week.

The Mayor also announced that 20 streetlights would be installed around the school compound to improve visibility and security, particularly at night.

He directed the Head of Works Department to pave the school grounds within the next six months, to improve accessibility, reduce dust and mud and provide a more conducive environment for pupils and staff.

Touching on security, the Mayor said the Assembly would deploy Metro Guards to the school to provide 24-hour security, stressing the need to protect the facilities and prevent unauthorised persons from damaging or misusing public property.

At the Private Odartey Lamptey Basic School, the Mayor was informed that renovation works had reached approximately 90 per cent completion, with the remaining works expected to be completed soon to enable the school to fully benefit from the upgraded infrastructure.

He instructed officials supervising the projects and the contractors to ensure that the remaining works were completed to the required standards, stressing that the Assembly expected value for money from investments being made in educational infrastructure.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) boss noted that the inspections formed part of the AMA's broader monitoring efforts to ensure that projects being implemented across the metropolis were completed according to specification and delivered for the benefit of residents.

He pointed out that improving school infrastructure remained critical to the government agenda of creating a safe and conducive environment for teaching and learning, adding that the Assembly would continue to identify and address infrastructure challenges facing public schools within its jurisdiction.

The Mayor was accompanied on the inspection by  Hon. Alfred Nii Kotey Ashie, Member of Parliament for the Odododiodioo Constituency, the Metro Coordinating Director, Mr. Douglas N.K Annoful, the Presiding Member and the Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Musah Ziyad and Heads of the Works and Public Affairs Departments, among other officials of the Assembly.
