The Accra Metropolitan Assembly(AMA) in partnership with C40 cities,  a network of mayors working to confront the climate crisis has hosted a four-member delegation from Dar es Salaam City Council, a city authority in Tanzania with a focus on facilitating the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best practices related to accelerating climate action, specifically in formalizing migrants' rights in the city's waste management sector.

The visit which took place from November 21st to 24th, 2023 also aimed at leveraging the city’s Climate Action Plan, (CAP)with a particular interest in replicating successful approaches in Dar es Salaam.

The knowledge acquired from the visit is expected to contribute to the formalization of informal waste pickers and ensure equity and inclusivity for all targeted groups in Dar es Salaam's waste management project.

Notably, Dar es Salaam City Council has received an award for a project on organic waste management, intending to engage community-based organizations and informal waste pickers from informal settlements to promote green jobs, leading to improved livelihoods, working conditions, and cleaner streets.

The four-member delegation included a Principal Environmental Management Officer, an Environmental Management Officer, the C40 Cities City Advisor for Dar es Salaam, and a Tourism Officer.
