The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has lauded the London to Accra Diaspora Economic Growth Summit, describing it as a platform to deepen city-to-city collaboration and unlock trade, investment, innovation and creative exchange between Accra and London through diaspora networks.
According to him, Accra and London were cities shaped by movement and enterprise, with people, ideas and skills extending beyond borders, adding that these shared qualities strengthened the connection between the two cities and created opportunities for stronger cooperation.
The Mayor, speaking in an interview on the sidelines of the summit, commended the British High Commission in Accra for convening the event and for advancing the London–Accra campaign.
The Summit hosted by the British High Commission in Accra in partnership with the Bank of Ghana at the Bank of Ghana Headquarters, brought together policymakers, investors, innovators and creatives to chart strategies for long-term, inclusive economic growth driven by diaspora engagement
The Mayor said the campaign represented a strategic commitment to strengthening structured city-to-city collaboration by recognising the diaspora as a vital economic, cultural and social bridge between the two cities.
He stated that the London–Accra corridor had the potential to unlock shared growth, deepen people-to-people ties and position both cities as leaders in inclusive urban development through sustained partnership and co-created solutions.
The Mayor later endorsed the London–Accra campaign and affirmed his support for its objectives and future activities, adding that the initiative aligned with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s vision of positioning Accra as a globally connected, investment-ready and culturally vibrant city.
He expressed confidence that the campaign would continue to deliver meaningful outcomes and serve as a model for successful city-to-city collaboration.
The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Dr. Christian Rogg, in an opening remark highlighted the importance of the British-Ghanaian diaspora in strengthening shared prosperity.
The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiamah, also reaffirmed the central bank’s commitment to building the policy and regulatory environment to support diaspora investment and promote more efficient remittance channels, including through digital financial services.
