The Assembly Member for the Kinka Electoral Area, Hon. Carlos Romulus Nii Ayaa Mankattah, has led residents to participate in the second edition of the National Sanitation Day clean-up exercise.
The clean-up exercise which covered major locations within the Kinka Electoral Area in Ashiedu Keteke Sub-Metropolitan District, focused on the desilting of the drains within areas such as Akoto Lante, Gbese Mantse Palace, Swalaba, Asere Mantse Palace and Bukom.
Other areas cleaned included the Prof. John Evans Atta Mills High Street to the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park enclave.
Speaking during the exercise, Hon. Mankattah expressed concern over the dumping of refuse into drains, describing it as a major cause of flooding and environmental degradation.
He urged community members to collaborate with the Assembly to sustain cleanliness, reduce health risks, and create jobs through improved waste management.
He cautioned residents to desist from dumping refuse into drains and warned that offenders would be prosecuted by the AMA Sanitation Court.
The Assembly Member also expressed gratitude to the Ashiedu Keteke Sub-Metropolitan District Director, Mr. Samuel Tutuani, the Transport Officer for the AMA, Mr. Emmanuel Appiah Dankwa and all other AMA officials who provided resources for the exercise.
He commended residents of the Kinka Electoral Area and the wider Ashiedu Keteke Sub-Metropolitan District for their active participation and continued support toward maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
Meanwhile, a similar clean-up exercise took place in the Okaikoi South Sub-Metropolitan District, where residents, Assembly officials, and taskforce members led by their director, Mercy Odoi joined forces to desilt drains, clear refuse heaps, and sweep public spaces. The parallel efforts across sub-metros formed part of the broader National Sanitation Day campaign being observed simultaneously across the city to ensure Accra remains clean, safe, and resilient.
