The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah, has urged sanitation officers to assist the city authorities in educating citizens to change their attitudes in the quest to make the Accra’s beaches clean.
According to him despite intervention to improve sanitation along the beaches, education remains critical to achieving the needed results.
Mohammed Adjei Sowah who made this known on Thursday in an interaction with sanitation officers at the Labadi beach during an inspection of some beaches and waste disposal sites among others.
" We can see that you have done a very good job and the entire beach is clean. But your efforts must not end there, you must all assist the assembly to educate members of the community to desist from dumping refuse into the drains since all the waste ends up at the beach for you to clean, " he said.
The AMA boss also commended the sanitation officers for the service to the city and admonished them to adhere to all the COVID-19 precautionary measures by ensuring that they wear a mask at all times, wash their hands with soap under running water, practice social distancing and sanitize their hands regularly.
At the Nsumia and Adepa Waste Disposal sites, the Mayor expressed concerns about the bad nature of the access roads especially when it rains attributing it to the long queues.
Some other areas the Mayor visited include the Teshie beach, La beach, Osu beach as well as the Dogo beach near the Korle lagoon.
