The Greater Accra Regional Chapter of the National Association of Registered Midwives–Ghana (NARM-GAR) has officially invited the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, to serve as a Regional Patron of the Association.
The invitation was extended when the regional leadership of NARM-GAR paid a courtesy call on the Mayor at his office to express appreciation for his support towards the successful commemoration of the International Day of the Midwife Symposium in the region.
Speaking during the visit, the Regional Chairperson of NARM-GAR, Madam Rosetta N. Boakye said the Association was grateful to the Mayor for his contribution and support before, during, and after the symposium.
She said the Mayor’s assistance had contributed to the successful organisation of the event, adding that his assurance that his doors remained open to the Association had encouraged the leadership to deepen its relationship with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).
Madam Boakye said the decision to invite Hon. Allotey to serve as Regional Patron was informed by his demonstrated commitment to public service, urban development, sanitation improvement, community transformation, and good governance.
She noted that the Mayor’s personal connection to the midwifery profession made the invitation more meaningful, explaining that his upbringing by a midwife had created a unique bond between him and the profession.
As part of the visit, the Association presented a plaque of appreciation to the Mayor in recognition of his outstanding service, visionary leadership, dedication to good governance and commitment to building a cleaner, safer and more prosperous Accra.
Receiving the honour, Hon. Allotey expressed appreciation to the regional leadership of NARM-GAR for the recognition and the invitation to serve as a patron and reaffirmed that his office always remained open to the Association.
The Mayor commended midwives for their invaluable role in safeguarding maternal and child health and assured the delegation of his continued support, adding that the AMA would continue to encourage partnerships that promoted health, sanitation, community development and the overall well-being of residents.
