Youth Climate Action Fund: AMA intensifies sensitization campaign, engages traders, youth at Ashiedu Keteke

Officials from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) have intensified efforts to raise awareness about Phase II of the Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF) with a street campaign at the Ashiedu Keteke Sub-Metropolitan District.

The sensitization exercise covered key areas such as the Independence Avenue Cluster of Schools and the Kwasiadwaso Market, where a team from AMA engaged commuters, traders, motorists, and passersby on the importance of climate action while distributing stickers and flyers and also displaying placards carrying messages designed to encourage youth participation in the initiative.

Some of the messages displayed on the placards read: “Join the fight for climate justice—today,” “Everyone has a role to play. No matter your background, your voice makes a difference,” and “AMA announces Youth Climate Action Fund to drive sustainable change—Apply now.”

Speaking on the initiative, the Acting Coordinator of the Project, Mr. Bensmith Afful, stated that the campaign aimed to educate the public, particularly market women and young people, on best waste management practices and climate change mitigation efforts.

Mr. Afful highlighted that the YCAF provides micro-grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 for youth aged 15 to 24 to support climate-related projects. He urged interested applicants to visit the official website: www.ama.gov.gh, to download their application forms and submit them to the e-mail: resilience@ama.gov.gh after filling.

He called on young people to equip themselves with knowledge on climate change and take proactive steps by developing and submitting innovative projects that could contribute to sustainability. “The future belongs to the youth, and we must take responsibility to ensure we leave the planet in a better state for future generations,” he added.

As part of the campaign, AMA partnered with social media influencer Official Starter and traders to educate residents on the threats of climate change and the need for sustainable environmental practices.

The YCAF Phase II initiative is expected to drive community engagement and enhance sustainable climate practices across the metropolis.
