Mayor of Accra pays unannounced visit to Okaikoi South office, commends Director for showing leadership

The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey has paid an unannounced visit to the Okaikoi South Sub-Metropolitan District Office to assess work efficiency, staff attendance, and subsequently commended the Sub Metro Director for what he described as strong leadership and effective supervision.

The surprise visit, which formed part of efforts to monitor productivity and service delivery within the Accra Metropolis, saw the Mayor tour various offices and interact with directors and staff.

Speaking to the media after the inspection, the Mayor said the visit was intended to verify whether workers being paid by the government were at post and performing their duties as expected.

He said his checks showed that staff were present and actively engaged in their responsibilities, adding that apart from one or two officers who had reportedly gone for lunch, the offices were full and functioning.

He said the presence of the Sub-Metro Director reflected seriousness and commitment to duty adding that the outcome of the visit was encouraging and depicted progress of work at the Okaikoi South Sub-Metro office.

He praised the Sub-Metro Director, Mercy Odoi for doing a good job and said her leadership style should serve as an example to other heads of departments and directors across the Assembly.

The Mayor stated that if public officials remained committed to their duties and provided proper supervision, the country would witness positive change.

He also touched on ongoing works at Kaneshie and Circle, particularly the bridge project, and explained that the project was being executed under a shift system in line with a 24-hour work approach.

During his interaction with staff, the Mayor urged them to remain dedicated, punctual and professional in the discharge of their duties.

He encouraged them to continue working hard in the interest of the public, stressing that effective service delivery at the local level was key to improving governance and public confidence in state institutions.
