The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey will grace the upcoming West African Bodybuilding Championship scheduled for April 24 at the National Theatre in Accra, following a formal invitation by the event’s organisers.
The competition, now in its fifth year, will host athletes from across the sub-region, including Nigeria, Liberia and Côte d’Ivoire, as part of efforts to promote fitness, sports development and regional collaboration.
The championship aims to position Ghana as a key player in the bodybuilding and fitness industry,y while creating opportunities for young people to adopt healthy lifestyles. It is also expected to attract several high-profile dignitaries, including ambassadors and the Minister for Sports.
Speaking during a courtesy call to officially invite him to the event, the Mayor commended the initiative, describing it as a commendable effort to project both Accra and Ghana on the international stage.
He reaffirmed the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s (AMA) commitment to supporting activities that enhance the city’s global image and promote youth engagement in sports and fitness.
The Mayor assured the organisers that the AMA would explore ways to support the successful hosting of the event.
The organisers, during a courtesy call on the Mayor, noted that this year’s edition had been elevated to a larger venue to reflect its growing stature and international participation.
According to them, the championship serves as a platform to promote Ghana’s presence in the fitness and bodybuilding industry while fostering regional collaboration.
They also appealed for support, particularly in facilitating access for students from tertiary institutions who had expressed interest in attending but may not be able to afford tickets.
