24.Feb.2026

The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey has paid a two-day working visit to selected companies in the metropolis to familiarise himself with their operations, engage management on constraints affecting productivity, and encourage expansion to create more jobs.

The visit formed part of measures to operationalise the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s (AMA) stakeholder engagement plan, aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Assembly and the private sector to improve the business environment, attract investment and support inclusive economic growth in the city.

Accompanied by the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei South Constituency, Hon. Ernest Adomako, the visits were also used to court the private sector to adopt green public and open spaces in the metropolis to beautify and improve cleanliness.

The companies visited were Melcom, Mohinani Group, Ashfoam, Duraplast, Promasidor Ghana Limited, De-Luxy Paint, Latex Foam, M/S Thakar Overseas Limited, Sigma Gas Company Limited and Royal Motors

Addressing the media after the tour, the Mayor said the AMA and government were committed to helping resolve challenges confronting businesses to enable them to grow investments and expand job opportunities for residents, particularly young people seeking employment.

He reiterated that the AMA’s doors remained open to collaboration and said the Assembly was ready to listen and work with companies to deliver practical, lasting solutions to constraints affecting operations.

The Mayor stressed the Assembly’s interest in companies operating 24-hour systems, noting that such business models had the potential to increase productivity and create more employment avenues for the youth.

He said the AMA would prioritise engagements that supported expanded working hours and higher output, and would explore ways of providing guidance and support to firms and individuals who sought to participate in the 24-hour economy but lacked the capacity to do so effectively.

Managing Directors of the companies visited commended the Mayor for the initiative, describing him as the first to pay them a personal working call since assuming office.
