The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) will commission a newly installed biogas plant at the AMA Canteen on Friday. This initiative aims to convert kitchen organic waste into biogas for cooking and to produce organic fertiliser.
The plant installed by DasBiogas Ltd, follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the AMA and DasBiogas to enhance sanitation, minimise landfill waste, and support clean energy generation through biogas technology.
Speaking ahead of the commissioning, the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Elizabeth Sackey, said the initiative, which is in line with the Accra Climate Action Plan, demonstrates the AMA’s commitment to a cleaner, greener Accra while reducing greenhouse emissions.
“By transforming organic waste into valuable resources, we are actively reducing the pressure on our landfills and moving towards a more sustainable, eco-friendly future for the city,” she said.
Mayor Sackey added that the AMA would continue to explore similar partnerships to leverage sustainable technologies that support Accra’s vision for clean energy and urban waste management.
“This partnership with DasBiogas Ltd is just the beginning of our journey towards a more resilient and sustainable Accra. It aligns with our broader commitment to finding innovative and locally adaptable solutions to our waste and energy needs” she said.
Enock Kofi Boadu, CEO of DasBiogas Ltd, expressed his excitement about the commissioning, describing it as a major step toward improving waste management and promoting clean energy in urban areas.
He noted that DasBiogas specialises in providing portable biogas systems for households as well as customised solutions for businesses and institutions.
Mr Boadu highlighted the practicality and eco-friendliness of the plant, which allows both homeowners and organisations to generate energy from organic waste, while also producing nutrient-rich fertiliser.
He emphasised the versatility of biogas technology in providing reliable and clean energy, stating “Whether you are a homeowner looking for clean energy or an organisation needing a sustainable energy alternative, our systems offer a viable path to sustainable energy solutions.”
