Rope pullers from Bukom a suburb of Accra have emerged winners in the 2019/2020 Tug of War sporting competition organized by Dreamland Sports Plus with support from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) in Accra.
The competition which was christened “Who Rules #BukomChallenge2019" saw 16 teams from the coastal communities in Accra namely #Bukom, #NgleshieAlata, #Sempe, #Asere, #Abola, #Akanmadzen, #Otublohum and #Gbese competing to win the ultimate trophy and cash prize.
In the finals of the competition which came off on Sunday, January 5, 2020, Pullers from #Bukom dominated by pulling men from #Akanmadzen to win the competition with a cash prize of GHȻ1000, a trophy and products from sponsors.
Pullers from #Akanmadzen who came second also took home GHȻ500 as well as sponsors’ products, while Abola the third placers received sponsors’ products.
Metropolitan Chief Executive of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah who presented the trophy to the winners congratulated the participants and urged them to love the sports as coaches would be trained to mould them into international stars.
He pointed out that the Assembly is currently paying attention to lesser-known sports such as swimming, basketball, arm wrestling, among others in preparation towards the All African Games in 2023.
“We want to promote all kinds of sports in order to be able to compete in all the sporting activities in the upcoming games, " he said, adding that such activities would help promote peace, unity and community development.
Present at the event were Nii Adote Otintor, Sempe Manste, Nii Abola Mantse, Asafoatse Mankatta, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Chief Executive of Coastal Development Authority (CODA), the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma Central,Ebenezer Narh and Nii Lante Bannerman, aspiring MP for Odododiodoo Constituency.
The competition was also supported by the National Sports Authority (NSA) the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and African Sports Media Network, GTV Sports, Metro TV, Daily Guide, Graphic Communications Group, Ghanaian Times, Ultimate Sport on HSIV, Modern Ghana, GNA and TV Africa.
