The Metropolitan Chief Executive of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah, has appealed to city dwellers, commuters and visitors to put forward their best efforts on a daily basis to ensure a clean, healthy and safe environment in Accra, now and in the future.
The Mayor said this in his New Year Message issued on the Wednesday 1 January 2020.
"The gift of a new year presents another golden opportunity to achieve our goals. Towards this end, as we commence the year 2020 let us all renew our commitment, put forward our best effort on a daily basis to ensure a clean, healthy and safe environment in Accra, now and in the future, " he said.
“The end of a year and the beginning of a new one is an ideal time to reflect on what is important to us and what we hope to achieve. Despite our challenges, let’s all remain positive, enthusiastic, energetic and commit to building a clean and a safe city, I wish everyone a safe, happy and prosperous New Year, “he said.
He urged citizens to be watchdogs against insanitary conditions in their environment as well as adopt the principle of waste reduction, reuse and recycling and desist from littering and indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
He also used the opportunity to remind citizens that creating a safer environment for now and the future generation was of the essence and admonished them to be responsible citizens.
He assured that the Assembly was committed to the clean Accra agenda and would intensify measures to improve sanitation in the city.
