National Tourism Authority honours AMA boss for promoting Year of Return


The National Tourism Authority has conferred on the Mayor of Accra, Mohammed Adjei-Sowah an honorary award at the 2019 National Tourism Awards. 

The 13th National Tourism Awards which was held on  Friday, November 6, 2020, at the National Theatre, Accra, under the theme "Growing tourism beyond the return, beyond COVID-19" seeks to acknowledge and reward industry stakeholders who have excelled and contributed immensely to the development of the tourism industry in Ghana. In all, 29 awards were given out to deserving organisations and individuals under the categories;  accommodation, catering and travel services, media as well as honorary. 

The citation presented to the Mayor of Accra on Saturday captured his role in enhancing the image and appeal of the City of Accra during the Year of Return activities. 

The citation read "Your contribution to the tourism sector includes the "Accra for art project " which includes creating public art and murals and has supported and promoted the lesser-known sports including arm wrestling and swimming. Your role in enhancing the image and appeal of the City of Accra during the Year of Return 
activities and your help during the Jamestown to Jamestown activities are worth mentioning. 
For your role in promoting the year of return, the ghana tourism authority confers on you this honorary award."

The National Tourism Awards was instituted by the Ghana Tourism Authority in 1997 to reward excellent performance in the tourism sector.

It is one of the flagship events of the GTA and it sets the tone for high standards in service delivery among practitioners in the tourism sector. 

Awards, including honorary awards, are presented to practitioners, individuals and organisations who have made immense contributions to the growth and development of Ghana’s tourism industry.
