Accra Metro Census Implementation Committee inaugurated

An eleven (11) member committee has been inaugurated in Accra to conduct a trial census as part of preparations towards the 2020 Population and Housing Census. 

The committee chaired by the Co-coordinating Director of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, (AMA) Mr. Benjamin Armah, has the District Statistical Officer, District Information Officer, District Director of Education, District Population Officer, District Agriculture Officer and a representative of the traditional council as members.  

Inaugurating the committee, Deputy Government Statistician, disclosed that the   Accra Census Implementation Committee (CIC) would be responsible for publicity and education, facilitating recruitment and training of field personnel as well as identification of suitable facilities to conduct training for enumerators and supervisors among others. 

The committee he added, is also expected to mobilise stakeholder support and educate residents in the city on the essence of the upcoming census.

He pointed out that, the trial census was an essential preparatory activity designed to test the adequacy of the entire 2020 Census plan and the census process in some selected districts namely: Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri in the North East Region, Yunyo-Nasaon in the North East Region, Dormaa West in the Bono Region, Krachi East in the Oti Region,  Awutu Senya East and West in the Central Region, as well as Ashiedu Keteke, Ledzokuku, Osu Klottey, Ayawaso West and Okaikwei South in the Greater Accra Region.

"The Trial Census Night will be 26th May, 2019 while fieldwork will commence on 27'' May, 2019 and end on 10th June, 2019," he added. 

Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Benjamin Armah assured that, the committee would work hard to ensure a credible data and urged members to be up and doing.
