The Metropolitan Chief Executive Officer of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah on Wednesday visited a section of Old Fadama behind the Agbogbloshie Kokomba Yam Market in Accra that was gutted by fire on January 6th, 2020.
The Mayor who was accompanied by some officials of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) expressed the Assembly's sympathy over the unfortunate incident and assured the residents of government assistance.
The fire, which started at 12:15 pm razed down several structures before being brought under control at 16:43hrs by the personnel of the National Fire Service.
Mr Sowah appealed to the victims to cooperate with fire officers and other officials to help investigate the cause of the fire and admonished them to be safety conscious to protect lives and properties in the area.
He also directed chiefs and leaders of the area to schedule a meeting with the officials of the Ashiedu Keteke Sub Metro and the Assemblyman of the area to agree on modalities targeted at creating access to the area adding that he would visit the area on Friday.
"The chiefs and the leadership here should meet again either today or tomorrow, Friday we will come back. I want them to have enough time because they understand themselves better here. The NADMO officials will also stay here with you just to give us an estimate, we will give you time. Friday when we come, we will hold a meeting to listen to what you have agreed on and quickly we can start working on it."
Some residents of the area thanked the Mayor and his team for their support and were hopeful that creating an access route into the community would go a long way to forestall any future incidence.
