The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey has presented a total of 69 pieces of office equipment to the three sub-metropolitan district councils of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to support administrative work and improve productivity.

The items comprised 20 office desks, 16 printers, seven laptops, and 26 chairs, which are to be distributed to selected offices and departments within the metropolis.

Presenting the items to the sub-metros on Thursday, 2 July 2026, the Mayor said that the provision of the equipment formed part of the measures being taken by the AMA to improve the working environment of staff and enhance service delivery.

He said a productive workforce required the right tools, decent working conditions, and a supportive environment, adding that the Assembly would continue to provide the necessary logistics to enable staff to discharge their duties effectively.

Hon. Allotey said the equipment had been procured from the Assembly’s Internally Generated Funds (IGF), stressing that it was important to improve institutional performance.

He said the Assembly could only achieve its development objectives if staff at all levels, especially those at the sub-metros who worked closely with residents, were properly resourced to respond to public needs.

The Mayor stated that the presentation was also in line with his commitment to strengthen the sub-metros and make them more responsive, efficient, and accountable in delivering services to the people of Accra.

Touching on staff welfare, Hon. Allotey said since assuming office a year ago, he had taken steps to improve the salaries of staff paid from the Assembly’s IGF in a bid to motivate them and enhance their commitment to duty.

He said the salary adjustment was not only to support staff welfare but also to encourage hard work, discipline, and improved productivity across all departments of the Assembly.

The Mayor stressed the need for staff to put in their best and justify the investment being made in their welfare and working environment, adding that improved conditions must reflect in better performance, punctuality and service to the public.

He said his daily visits to offices in the morning were not meant to intimidate staff but to monitor attendance, encourage discipline, interact with workers and ensure that the Assembly remained focused on its mandate.

The Sub-Metro Director for Okaikoi South Sub-Metro, Madam Mercy Odoi speaking on behalf of her colleagues, thanked the Mayor for listening to their plea for office equipment and promised that they would be properly maintained and used for the intended purpose to support productivity and improve service delivery within the sub-metros.
