Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) within the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA) have embarked on a city wide inspection aimed at designing an integrated solution towards the attainment of the Clean Accra Agenda.
The tour which took place on Wednesday, 6th February, 2019 also served as a platform for the MMDCEs to share ideas on how best the challenges within their various jurisdictions could be dealt with.
The sites visited were, the capped dumpsite behind the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), the Integrated Recycling and Composting Plant on the mortuary road and the closed landfill site at Glefe. Before embarking on the inspection, they paid a courtesy call on the Greater Accra Regional Minister to inform him of the purpose of the inspection.
Chief Executive Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Mohammed Adjei Sowah, in a remark said, MMDCEs within the GAMA area were poised to making Accra the cleanest city in Africa, and have been working assiduously with stakeholders to ensure the realization of the President’s vision.
He said, Accra has been identified as a major waste generation point with the Central Business District (CBD) alone generating close to 1000 tons daily. Adding that, sustainable interventions are being put in place to address the challenge.
The MMDCEs during the visit also interacted with hawkers at major intersections in the city and at the Tema motorway tollbooth. They cautioned them to desist from parking their goods on the medians and pedestrian walkways.
The Chief Executives who partook in the tour included the MCE for Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly, Mr. George Cyril Bray, MCE for Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly, Kofi Ofori, Adentan MCE, Daniel Alexander Nii Noi Adumuah, Ga West MCE, Mr. Clement Hilkinson, Tema West MCE, Mrs. Adwoa Amoako, Ayawaso West MCE, Hon Sandra Owusu Ahenkorah and MCE for Ayawaso East, Hajia Salma Mohammed Adams.
