Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Mohammed Adjei Sowah has hinted at plans to establish a special sport-focused school specifically designed to enable student-athletes to attain academic and athletic excellence in a well-structured educational and athletic training environment.

According to him, the Assembly is collaborating with Trust Sports Emporium Limited, managers of the multi-purpose sports facility in Accra, of which he is an ambassador on setting up the school structure where all athletes would be made to attend to help develop their potentials.

The AMA boss disclosed this when the National featherweight champion, John Laryea  popularly known as ‘Expensive Boxer’ accompanied by his manager Mr Sammy Anim Addo, Coach Carl Lokko of the Bronx Boxing Gym in Jamestown and other members of the Team Laryea called on him at the City Hall on Monday to present to him his title and officially invite him to his fight night against Sabastianus Nathaniel for the WBO African featherweight title.

He said the AMA was working with the Ghana Education Service to prepare a module and curriculum specifically designed for the running of the school.

He mentioned that the Assembly would redevelop the City Engineers building in the Ashiedu-Keteke Sub-Metropolitan District into a multi-purpose community centre to promote sports in the city.

“We have initiated plans to turn City Engineers into a community centre because there is none like that in Accra, we want to invest into making sure the place becomes a community centre so that all kinds of sporting activities such as training can be done there,” he said.

Hon. Adjei Sowah used the opportunity to admonish the boxer to be disciplined since his success would create an economy and open a future for many in the community.

"You can only succeed if you are disciplined... Being disciplined is not only about your training but your entire life," he said.

He encouraged the young champion to be relentless in becoming a great boxer in the future and take discipline as his hallmark since that is the key to becoming a great boxer.

Mr Samuel Anim Addo, manager of John Laryea said Team Laryea was working on unearthing young talents in the field of boxing and grooming them to achieve higher heights.
