19.Aug.2024

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) is set to host town hall meetings to account for government projects implemented through the Assembly since 2017.

The Public Financial Management Town Hall Meetings are being held for all three Sub-Metropolitan Districts of the AMA with the objective of enhancing transparency, accountability, and participatory governance at the local level.

The meetings, scheduled for Tuesday, August 20, 2024, and Thursday, August 22, 2024, will provide an opportunity for citizens to engage directly with the Assembly and receive updates on key infrastructural, educational, sanitation, and revenue mobilisation initiatives.

Speaking to the media ahead of the upcoming event, the Head of Public Affairs at the AMA, Gilbert Nii Ankrah said the first meeting would be held at the Accra City Hall for the Ashiedu Keteke and Ablekuma South Sub-Metropolitan Districts on Tuesday, August 20.

He added that the series would conclude with a session for the Okaikoi South Sub-Metropolitan District on Thursday, August 22, at the Kaneshie Pentecost Central Assembly Church.

Key topics to be discussed he disclosed included the redevelopment of schools, efforts to improve sanitation, waste management initiatives, and projects promoting economic development at the grassroots level.

Among the notable achievements to be highlighted, he said were the redevelopment of Independence Avenue School, the introduction of digital platforms for revenue collection, and job creation through various local initiatives.

"The Assembly will also share updates on ongoing partnerships with private sector entities and plans for future development," he added.

According to him, the upcoming town hall meetings would offer residents an opportunity to engage with the Assembly on critical developments that have shaped their communities.

"The purpose of these meetings is to account for the projects implemented by the Assembly and the government since 2017, allowing the public to gain insights into how these projects have impacted local infrastructure, education, sanitation, and economic development," Mr Ankrah stated.

The meetings he said would serve as a platform for open dialogue, giving residents the chance to voice their concerns and provide feedback.

"We are encouraging active participation from all residents, as their input is vital in ensuring that the Assembly continues to meet the needs of the people," he said.

"This is an opportunity for the Assembly to demonstrate its commitment to responsible governance, and we invite all residents to attend and be part of the conversation," he added.
