Apinko Engineering company limited has donated a foot-operated handwashing basin to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) as part of its corporate social responsibility towards the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The handwashing basin which is operated by foot has a 200L water holding capacity and a separate lever for dispensing soap and capable of serving 600 persons before refill.
Presenting the item at the forecourt of the Accra City Hall which is managed by Listening Bureau, Mr Kwame Fosu Mensah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company explained that he was motivated by the number of people visiting the Accra City Hall on daily basis to transact business, hence the donation of the facility which withstands any weather conditions.
"I believe A.M.A has a lot of human traffic every day and this basin you see there can serve up to 600 people before a refill, " he said.
Metropolitan Chief Executive of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah who received the facility on behalf of the assembly expressed his appreciation and called on other institutions to support the assembly to enhance its COVID-19 response activities.
He noted that as part of efforts to prevent the spread of the virus in the city had distributed handwashing facilities and nose mask to markets, stool houses as well as other public places int city and city dwellers respectively.
He reiterated the need for all citizens to adhere to the safety precautions to help prevent the spread of the virus.
