Spanish Ambassador to Ghana calls on Mayor of Accra


The Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Javier Gutiérrez has paid a courtesy call on the Mayor of Accra, Hon Elizabeth Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey to strengthen bilateral relations between Accra and cities in Spain to bring development.

The two exchanged views on promoting cultural exchanges, establishing a sister-city relationship between Accra and cities in Spain, urban planning, economic development and tourism among others. 

The Mayor of Accra who welcomed the visiting Ambassador stressed the need to strengthen the relationship with cities across the globe to share best practices to bring development.

She also cited opportunities in areas of arts and culture as well as tourism as some major sectors the Assembly was focusing on to promote development in the city of Accra.

She used the opportunity to throw more light on the Homowo festival of the Ga people and invited the Ambassador to partake in the activities to experience the rich culture.

She also touched on sports development and other areas of interest the two could work together.

His Excellency Javier Gutiérrez expressed interest in partnering with Accra to host the 2023 World Book Capital title to promote libraries and enhance the reading of books in the city.

He also added that his outfit was willing and ready to support the City of Accra to improve sanitation and address challenges confronting the City of Accra to strengthen the ties between the two countries.

The Spanish Ambassador congratulated the Mayor on her appointment as the first female Mayor of Accra.
