AMA Birth and Deaths Registry honours best-performing registry

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Births and Deaths Registry has awarded its best-performing registries for 2024 at the maiden staff meeting for 2025.

The meeting, held in Accra, brought together staff from Ussher Town, Bubuashie, Korle Gonno, Mamprobi, Kaneshie, Adjabeng, Chorkor, Korle Bu, and Accra Central registries.

Speaking at the event, the Head of the Accra Metropolitan Births and Deaths Registry, Mr Ludwig Mawuli Agbezuhlor, commended the staff for their hard work in the previous year and revealed that the metropolis recorded 8,080 new births in 2024, comprising 4,080 males and 4,000 females.

He said the total number of deaths registered during the same period was 4,608, consisting of 2,318 females and 2,290 males.

Mr. Agbezuhlor announced that the Korle Gonno Registry emerged as the best-performing unit, registering 2,312 births.                                                                                                                    

The team, led by Edmund Arde-Acquah and Sandra Lamptey, received a trophy for their outstanding achievement. At the same time, the Mamprobi Registry, managed by Priscilla Dela Baffour and Yvonne Kraku, came in second place with 1,560 births, with the Kaneshie Registry securing the third position with 1,198 registrations.

In the category of death registrations, he disclosed that the Korle Bu Registry took the top award, having recorded 4,493 deaths in 2024.                                                                                                                                                         

The Coordinating Director of AMA, Mr. Douglas  N.K Annoful commended the best-performing registries and staff of the Births and Deaths Registry for their dedication, resilience, and commitment to delivering exceptional service to the public.

“Your tireless efforts in ensuring timely and accurate vital statistics registration have not gone unnoticed. Your commitment has strengthened the operations of the Registry and supported the Assembly’s mandate of ensuring efficient service delivery,” he said.

The Human Resource Manager of the AMA, Mrs. Evelyn Owusu, congratulated the awardees and encouraged all staff to aim higher in 2025 underscoring the importance of their work and urged them to sustain the momentum for improved service delivery in the new year.
