Metropolitan Chief Executive of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah on Thursday received the second dose of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine on camera, as part of an effort to reassure the general public of the safety of the vaccines.
The AMA boss who was administered the shot in his left arm by a senior nurse at Mamprobi Hospital in Accra expressed confidence in the vaccine and encouraged residents of Accra to go for their jabs.
Mohammed Adjei Sowah received the first dose of the vaccine last month at the same health facility.
Ghana received additional 350,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine through the COVAX facility and is expected to be administered in the 43 districts that received their first jabs from March 1 to March 9.
The AstraZeneca vaccine, like the Covid-19 vaccine developed by the Serum Institute of India (SII), forms part of the larger 1.7 million consignments of doses allotted earlier to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The vaccines require two doses to ensure protection.
