Mayor of Accra, Okaikwei South MP, break ground for new school building in Avenor Community

The Mayor of Accra Hon. Elizabeth Kwatsoe Sackey, and Member of Parliament for Okaikwei South constituency Hon. Dakoa Newman, have ceremoniously cut sod for the construction of a three-story 18-unit classroom block for the residents of the Avenor Electoral Area in the Okaikoi South Sub-Metropolitan District.

The three-story classroom block will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including spacious classrooms, administrative offices, a library, a science laboratory, a computer laboratory, a multipurpose hall, and a staff common room, washrooms, among others. 

The new school block aims to provide better access to education for children in the area and alleviate the burden of long commutes for children, who previously had to travel considerable distances to attend schools in Adabraka, Nima, and New Town.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, the Mayor of Accra highlighted the importance of the project in addressing the educational needs of the Avenor community.

 "This initiative underscores our commitment to providing quality education for all children in Accra... By constructing this new school building, we are ensuring that children in Avenor have access to safe and conducive learning environments, without the need to travel long distances," she said. 

She expressed gratitude to God for the morning rains, symbolising blessings for the upcoming project, and emphasised the importance of timely completion, directing both the consultant and contractor to work at the speed of light to ensure the project stays on schedule.

The Mayor urged community members to support the government and their Member of Parliament (MP) in bringing more development to the area.

 

The Member of Parliament for Okai Kwei South constituency, Dakoa Newman, touched on the significance of the project for the community.

 "Education is the bedrock of every society, and we must ensure that every child has access to quality education," the MP stated. "The construction of this new school building is a step towards fulfilling that obligation and improving the educational landscape in Avenor."

She commended the community for their unwavering support and participation in the development initiatives and assured them of his commitment to ensuring that the project is completed on schedule and to the highest standards.

The MP reiterated the government's dedication to bringing more development to the community and called for continued collaboration between the government, traditional authorities, and community members to achieve this goal.

 The traditional authority called for unity and cooperation, among all stakeholders and urged community members to rally behind the government and the Member of Parliament (MP) to ensure the successful completion of the project and attract more development initiatives to the area.

Among the notable personalities in attendance were the Presiding Member of the AMA and Assemblyman for the Avenor Electoral Area, Hon. Alfred Asiedu Adjei Coordinating Director of the AMA Mr Douglas N.K Annoful, the Metro Director of Education, Justine Ivy Apawu, local government officials, community leaders, representatives of the construction company, and the media.
