Education

To build, equip and maintain all public primary, Junior High Schools and special schools as are in the opinion of the Minister of Education, after consultation with the Minister responsible for Local Government required in its area

To advise the Minister for Education on all matters relating to primary and middle schools and such other matters as may be referred to it by the Minister of Education

To be responsible for

                1 posting and transfer within its area of authority of teachers

                   including pupil teachers

                2 keeping records of teachers

                3 discipline of teachers in accordance with disciplinary code 

                   laid down by the GES

                4 appointment of school welfare officers

                5 recommending teachers for study leave

                6 appointment of head teachers in accordance with rules laid

                   down by the GES

                7 supervision of primary and Junior High schools

                8 formation of education committees

                9 in service training for teachers

                10 nursery school education

                11 approval for the re opening of primary private and Junior 

                     High schools

                12 payment of teachers salaries from funds made available

                     by government

                13 indenting for the supply and distribution of text books

                14 disbursement of Education Grants

                15 to grant scholarships or bursaries to suitable persons to

                     attend any school or other educational institution in

                    Ghana or else where
