The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Ishmael Ashitey and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly(AMA)Chief Executive ,Hon.Mohammed Adjei Sowah with officials from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) have inspected ongoing dredging of some major drains in flood prone areas being undertaken by Dredge Master Limited within the Accra Metropolis.

The exercise is part of the measures put in place to prevent or mitigate the impact of flooding during the raining season.
Areas the team visited last Friday included Kaneshie, Sukura, Osu Klottey and Chemu where de-silting works had already began.

Briefing the media Hon. Sowah said, as part of the AMA’s measures to avert possible disasters during raining season, it would carry out a number of interventions to avert flooding this year in other to ensure public safety.

He mentioned clearing of drains in Accra and embarking on public education about bad sanitation practices as some of the intended measures the AMA will embark on to avert some likely problems the rains can cause.

“We all know the bad attitude some people put up, like throwing plastic waste into drains, defecating in drains and many unpleasant attitudes, all these makes it very difficult for rains to flow” he stressed.

He added that, the assembly would ensure that the waste management companies responsible for collecting waste at various areas embark on their mandatory duties regularly.

He therefore pleaded with the general public to support the assembly in other to reduce menace of flooding in the city.
