The Accra Metropolitan Assembly [AMA], has cut the sod for the construction of three more millennium city(MC) schools in Accra a day after commissioning the 15th MC school at Salleria Cluster of schools located at Darkuman Kokompe.

The disability friendly buildings are to be sited on the compounds of Mantse Tackie Liberty Cluster of schools, Apenkwa Presby Cluster of Schools [Shiayennor] and Fadama Cluster of Schools respectively.

The three new 18 unit classroom blocks when completed ,will have offices for teachers, washrooms, libraries, computer and science laboratory and accommodate 1,500 school children.

Contractors working on the project are, Delovenes Construction, Jasoung Company Limited and Jasoung Milpar Investment and Development.

Speaking at the sod cutting ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of the AMA, Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije said the project will make teaching and learning in the millennium schools attractive.

He advised the pupils to desist from playing closer to where the construction will be on going in order to prevent casualties.

“Please stay away from the project site to prevent getting injured. All you have to do is to take your studies seriously by coming to school regularly and obeying instructions.” Dr. Okoe Vanderpuije cautioned.

Dr. Okoe Vanderpuije who is an educationist, encouraged the students to take their studies seriously so that they excel in their examination.

Notwithstanding this, he also tasked the contractors working on the three millennium city schools to endeavour to complete the project within one year.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly(AMA) plans to cut sod for three additional Millennium city schools at a later date. This will increase the number of schools to 128 which are at various stages of completion with 15 commissioned and are currently in use.
